it's cold out there...

As the song goes "Baby it's cold out There!" Makes me nostalgic about skating again.
This holiday I decorated my doors with skates, perfect to keep up all winter long. On the side door, above, hang my actual skates from when I was a teen.

My skates had big red rabbit fur pompoms with a bell on top, loved them! The bells alerted everyone at the Somerset Marsh that I had another tumble. The fur ones are long gone so I added these red pompoms.

Any skating stories you care to share?

Love your skate wreath, Karen! No skating in this California girl's past, present, or future....so no story! Ha!

Hi Karen,

The lake in the back and side of the house would freeze every 5 years or so. There was always a pair of skates in the house just in case! Everytime we went out Dad would take a pick and see how deep the ice was that day and he kept a rope with a life vest close by just in case. Always prepared!

Ice skating is a bit foreign here in Oz but I did have a pair of roller skates once upon-a- time. It is so hot here at the moment some snow would be a nice change... Cate :)

I also spent many a cold nights at the marsh. Ice skating always looked so easy on t.v. but when I actually tried it, I couldn't believe how HARD it was. My mother would put one skate on me to get used to it, don't think that really helped. God bless my mother for bringing me and my brother there on all those cold winter days and nights, just watching us fall. P.S. They want to open the marsh again. Wouldn't that be wonderful!!!!

oh yes Lisa, that would be wonderful, let's go if it should open! I'll get bells for both of us so we can both ring when we fall, hehe.
thanks, as always...

That is great idea of hanging your skates on your door. The red door is perfect for it.
I may have to copy.

Those skates are pimped out! I love 'em!

I learned how to ice skate on a bumpy, frozen pond when we lived in Montana as a child. Got a little touch of frostbite, too!

Thanks so much for your comments on my burnout post, I appreciate it. And you!

Anne

Hello! Thanks for stopping by, I didn't skate much as a kid by my children do and actually tonight my 2 youngest were able to skate with 2 of their cousins on their homemade rink! They had a ball, even though it was freezing :) I love the red pompoms, I hang skates outside too ~ Theresa

Love the skate wreath and thank you for stopping by my blog. Unfortunately skating was not an option where I grew up in Texas :)

Hi Karen!!
Thank you for coming to have a twirl around the dance floor with me and Cyd, Fred, Audrey and Gwen and...Senor Greco! I just gotta SHOUT because I am done, after 17 years of getting my B.A, two teaching licenses and now my M.A, I am happy and I am gonna relax, draw, write and whatnot! Your blog again, is stunning and you are always invited for a dance, a hunk of bread, some wine or tea at my place! Have a great day out in my old neck of the woods! Anita

Hi Karen, Love the look of those skates on the door. They look so Christmasy! No skating stories here, just lots of sledding parties and bumps and bruises. It usually wouldn't stay cold enough long enough to keep the ponds frozen enough to skate. I'm the sit by the fire and drink hot cocoa type!
Stay warm and have fun!
Debra

Gisele said" Yes, I remember the days skating at my cousins's house. She had a pond up the back of her dirt road where we skated along with her extended family that lived on the dirt road. It was so ala natural. As we would say "the good old days". The marsh is great, too. I skated there on occasions." Love your skates!!

oh, for those who never had the pleasure of skating outside till your nose was frozen, you could no longer feel your toes and your back side was sore from falling, you could at least share memories of my fun times, no I really mean that, FUN.
For those that had the pleasure, was it not wonderful,
skating anyone?
always thanks...
