RED CHECKS are so in! Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentine's Day friends!
Have you noticed that red checks are in style right now? They are especially so in Country Living magazine, my favorite magazine. So Brayton Homestead Interiors is right in style!
I have always wanted to create a "STAY CALM" poster; so here it is! I If you have visited my blog before you know that I love red checks. I am sharing some red check pictures from older blog posts and Pinterest , enjoy..

Here at the Homestead we celebrate all holidays with red checks. Krumpet, my yorkie, relaxes in style on his own check cushion. Checks items are available in so many stores now so it was easy to coordinate his dog bed into our kitchen. He is always ready to pose for the camera!

Red checks match my country kitchen decor, but tI have always loved them-they say old fashion gatherings to me. I like the fact that checks have a homespun look that reads no fuss. My new red check mason jar lids add extra charm to selecting a tea bag ....

Roosters rule on my Homestead spring time table, here set for light lunch with my sisters and friends. Old glass bottles that I collected hold an hydrangea at each setting...

A vintage cake mold in the shape of a lamb boasts a red check bow tie made from check ribbon. I layered the table first with a check tablecloth  then added vintage crochet pieces on top. My antique coffee pot with it's matching sugar and creamer have wonderful red Bakelite handles,  I think it makes the set extra special.

Here, I placed my cookies in red check bags for our Christmas time cookie exchange. I painted checks then glittered a small wood sleigh that centers my table .,. Boy,  I could eat a gingerbread cookie right now..

The Fourth of July was not left out from the red check love!  My dad's old tackle box became a holder for fresh flowers and flags. I just had a tuck in some fabric; you guessed it, red check !

I just purchased these red check cupcake liners from Sweet Estelle. I saw them featured in Country Living Magazine recently. I am sure I will be ordering more as red checks are always present here.

I am thrilled to be featured at Cozy Little House blog party!

Thank you for visiting Brayton Homestead
and HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

Happy Spring!

Easter is only 2 weeks ago, dare I say, "where did the time go?"
The time of year for renewal, the birds are back chirping and my roses planted along the stone wall look like they made it through the winter
Happy Spring!

winter whites

Usually I love deep colors, especially in home decor. Browns, reds, burgundies, pinks
my faves. But I am more and more drawn to whites, and more so in the winter.

As I browse through Etsy shops, and blogs , I can see creams everywhere even my shop and blog! ( and in a treasury) According to the newest issue of Country Living , I am in great company.

During the winter , winter whites make me think of snow scapes with deer, children making snowman. To be honest I love snowmen~ now I make them in paper mache; but I was always that little girl who complained that she was too cold to stay outside and make a snowman.

Still drawn to stay inside out of the cold, with a cup of hot cocoa, surrounded by vintage whites.

all in white

Maybe you have noticed I recently opened a second shop called BRAYTON COTTAGE, where all treasures are in shades of wondrous white. A clean new and fresh way to start a new year. Has been a challenge making the white objects look interesting and stand out. What do you think so far?

Thrilled to be another treasury in this second and new shop. Thanks JudyRuth.

Birds and Bunnies

Pink walls, green chairs and a beautiful toile tablecloth create a lovely setting for dining any time, especially for Easter. So perfect that after you have overeaten you may rest on the pink settee in the background, along with pillows for everyone, they thought of everything.

Don’t these sweet birdies circling the chandelier look like they are chirping a happy tune? Dripping with glass crystals and adorned with the most beautiful Art Deco style lamp shades this chandelier can certainly illuminate my Easter table!

All these Easter colors reminded of a photograph I had taken in Montreal. Outrageous pink birds with bright yellow head feathers certainly caught my idea in this store window. Who knew artificial birds could have such visual impact?

Landscape of Peeps

All this candy, oh yum I love peeps, especially the yellow bunnies! It would not be Easter without them. Luscious and so beautifully photographed by the talented Gary Heller. Gary sees beauty in things many would overlook. Hope you get lots of peeps too!

Happy Monday

Happy Monday! I trust everyone had a great weekend! Mine was jam backed and wonderful. Listened to live music with friend Giselle (I'm on left with scarf), gabbed with Mom for hours, hung out at the coffee shop, walked Krumpet and accomplished some client work. Also, displayed a few more vintage treasures on a high shelf in the pantry- but kept it simple!

Simple holiday decor

Only one week to Easter, thought I would finally display a few of my vintage decorations. Always nice to be surrounded by nostalgic holiday keepsakes. This year I am going to keep it simple~ or at least that is how it will start out. Besides, if it is new to a room, Krumpet decides it must be a new toy for him! Decorated, natural or vintage eggs in a wooden bowl are a lovely way to decorate…

Peeps and malted milk eggs

Do I love how this room feels like Easter to me, the colors of blue, yellow and pink. Makes me think of a big basket of Easter candy~ oh yum, pink peeps and malted milk eggs. Swooning over the walls, what a great way to recycle vintage wood and go green!

Paper Mache Rabbit

I just finished making this adorable rabbit and listed it on my Etsy shop- vintagedchic- SOLD-
She is a cute paper mache bunny jar. The rabbit is first made by molding the paper mache to the new jar a little bit at a time. Then painted and aged, a 5 step process. I just love her~ Shown filled with jewelry next to one of my handmade heart sachets on etsy.
Enjoy!
