Nature’s Slumber

Lay your head down on the soft down pillow, look up through the trees and peak at the bird’s’ nest. No, you are not camping. The ultimate in Faux Bois, an old technique of creating wood grain in different mediums, is this incredible bed by Shawn Lovell! As if you are laying under the stars, the frame of metal tree trunks with high reaching limbs come together at the top like a canopy, punctuated by a bird’s nets at the very top. Oh, sweet dreams….

Nature Imitated

Faux bois is an old paint technique where wood grain is imitated on a variety of surfaces, in these examples plaster and metal. I am crazy for Faux Bois! This lovely coat/ hat rack presents faux bois in metal. Imitated wood grain of the tree as the birds resting spot is perfect for spring.

Wood Grain on a plaster tree log is a playful twist on nature. This is the work by the awesome artists, somethings hiding in here on Etsy! You must check out there great shop, so original and playful. Two or three of these logs placed in a contemporary fireplace would look sensational.

Cozy Retreat

Retreat to this cozy room and let your troubles escape you! Let the wood beams envelop you and raise your feet on the yummy chenille ottoman. No worries, the slipcover can be removed and laundered. The repetition of brown and white on the striped round carpet and in the contrast of walls and beams create a casual atmosphere, while the blue French chairs add a formal sophistication. Perfect for another rainy April day. Enjoy!

Scanning Somerset

Took a close look at my town through the eyes of the camera and was pleasantly surprised. I present my collage of Somerset, Massachusetts.

Ended a wonderful day with a gallery opening with my friend Lisa, great time!
Earlier, stopped at yard sales, the flea market and picture taking ~ in and out of the car~ but for the last stop Krumpet was tired so I kept him in the car right near me. Last shot taken, got into the car, camera still on, he looked at me with this face—I kid you not!!!!!!!

Sunny Days

Oh joy, it has stopped raining for several days now, but it is April in New England and it will return. Wouldn’t this little nook- like- entrance be a lovely spot to hang up your raincoat when you enter, especially a pink one! Those striking damask boxes are a perfect place to tuck away the mail, and it Looks like Mary Poppins arrived for tea and placed her umbrella to dry…

Brayton Homestead

Maybe you noticed my new blog banner? It is the Brayton Homestead, circa 1796, that I am so fortunate to live in and own. Here is an old black and white photo from 1934 that I just found for sale on ebay. As a relatively young widow, my Mom purchased this Federal house that she and my dad had always admired. Daring step is it not? That 's Mom, now 87, a woman ahead of her time, trend setter, artist, traveler, etc. Pictured here with Dad, wonder where I got the hat thing…

Birds and Bunnies

Pink walls, green chairs and a beautiful toile tablecloth create a lovely setting for dining any time, especially for Easter. So perfect that after you have overeaten you may rest on the pink settee in the background, along with pillows for everyone, they thought of everything.

Don’t these sweet birdies circling the chandelier look like they are chirping a happy tune? Dripping with glass crystals and adorned with the most beautiful Art Deco style lamp shades this chandelier can certainly illuminate my Easter table!

All these Easter colors reminded of a photograph I had taken in Montreal. Outrageous pink birds with bright yellow head feathers certainly caught my idea in this store window. Who knew artificial birds could have such visual impact?

Landscape of Peeps

All this candy, oh yum I love peeps, especially the yellow bunnies! It would not be Easter without them. Luscious and so beautifully photographed by the talented Gary Heller. Gary sees beauty in things many would overlook. Hope you get lots of peeps too!

Happy Monday

Happy Monday! I trust everyone had a great weekend! Mine was jam backed and wonderful. Listened to live music with friend Giselle (I'm on left with scarf), gabbed with Mom for hours, hung out at the coffee shop, walked Krumpet and accomplished some client work. Also, displayed a few more vintage treasures on a high shelf in the pantry- but kept it simple!

Simple holiday decor

Only one week to Easter, thought I would finally display a few of my vintage decorations. Always nice to be surrounded by nostalgic holiday keepsakes. This year I am going to keep it simple~ or at least that is how it will start out. Besides, if it is new to a room, Krumpet decides it must be a new toy for him! Decorated, natural or vintage eggs in a wooden bowl are a lovely way to decorate…

Eclectic charm

Raspberry, blueberry and vanilla combine to make an eclectic living room. A traditional sofa becomes Modern with a clean white fabric and a mix of pillows. I love a white couch on an oriental carpet! The charming Moroccan base to the end table and fresh contemporary art on the walls harmonize beautifully. Do not be afraid to mix styles and express yourself…..
Unusual raspberry hued parrot tulips in a simple glass drinking picture is an eclectic mix in itself.; can’t you picture the flowers on that Moroccan end table along with the lovely strawberry platter and luscious pomegranates? How exotic!
