She Shed Dreams

I so intended to create my She Shed this Summer. I envision a bright space created using recycled materials. I have been collecting antique doors and windows for the exterior for my oasis.

Creating a place fit for a queen for the day! Fresh fruit, croissants and freshly squeezed juice served on an old vintage silver tray  sounds divine.
Mostly creams and white accented with wood tones (worn and aged, of course) will give the inside a vintage hideaway retreat. Will keep collecting antique furniture and architectural pieces and shoot for next year!
thanks for visiting!

BLOG DECORATING CHALLENGE

I was asked to take a BLOG CHALLENGE with the great online store, CHAIRISH. The challenge was to create an inspiration board around one of their vintage furniture pieces. To my delight there were many painted/ distressed beauties that I love ! Their vintage painted furniture perfectly reflects my decorating style at my own home, the Brayton Homestead, as well as being a furnishing accent I incorporate into many of my client's home at Brayton Homestead Interiors.

There were so many fantastic painted cupboards to choose from.  As I had recently presented my recycled jean skirts in a fashion show at the East Bay Chamber of Commerce in Warren R.I., I was drawn toward furniture with a faded denim patina!
Doesn't this cabinet remind you of your favorite blue jeans?

Here I am at the end of the fashion show wearing one of my plaid skirts with a lace insert and gold tone buttons purchased from my trip to Williamsburg . I walked with a handsome and sweet male model wearing my designs. I made the ascot  and cuffs he is wearing and accessorized a vintage jacket with an authentic tricorn hat and reproduction haversack. In the pixture in the top right corner on the inspiration board, a young female model struts her style in another of my one of a kind jean skirt designs with a vintage blue stripe fabric bottom with trim.

Pictures left to right.
row 1:  1. mirror from Chairish, 2. my pic from Williamsburg, 3. flag chest from Chairish, 4. model in Brayton Cottage show,
Bottom row 2 : 1.cabinet  from Chairish, 2. Elle Decor and shirt Google.

Not to mention my farmhouse, the Brayton Homestead, circa 1796, has many painted furnishings. It is full with red, white and blue tones, especially checks. .(This picture was of my kitchen in Country Sampler magazine this year.)

Small patina pieces are easy to be found (some  in my online shop) but it is harder to find larger pieces. My dream family room (below)  would contain many perfectly worn furnishings.  Vintage furniture adds a warmth to any space. Here, blues, gold and lots of comfort!

Crazy for this carpet too, also from Chairish; bold in color but still soft in tone and pattern. Both the chair and carpet are now on my wish list.

Red always make me smile, I hope that is the feeling when big red gates welcome visitors
to my homestead ;they never fail to get noticed.

So, what inspires your decorating ?
Family, home, patina, color and texture inspire me.
Distressed pieces take the worry out of a ding or scratch ruining your furniture. They make it more loved and comfortable -like your favorite pair of go-to  jeans! Entertain and welcome  your family and friends into your homestead, and enjoy!

Thank you CHAIRISH  for presenting me with this blog challenge
and
Thank you for visiting the homestead

Blog Giveway

How many reasons to thank Mom for all she taught me?
LET ME COUNT THE WAYS...
1.
Mom's talent and love of decorating was infectious. Her taste was classic meets artistic, a woman way ahead of her time.

Consequently, I was moving furniture around in my bedroom at an early age, painting things, covering everything in different colored and patterned paper and accessorizing to go with it; then changing it. Now I take her Classic yet Artistic style into my Interior Design business. Thanks Mom...

Chez Fifi

My hope is that you are having a wonderful week, that you feel like a princess and pale pink roses are never too far away. This lovely photograph is courtesy of the incredibly talented Chez Fifi, thank you. Feeling very sentimental with this image along with Mother's day just last week but most importantly my Mom's birthday this month, she will be 88 years young.
Have a great day...
and stay tuned for my 2nd giveaway!

Magnolia Pearl

Enjoy the soft colors and textures in the work of Robin Brown, owner of Magnolia Pearl. It is difficult to discern what I love most in this summer bedroom. The chippy columns that ascend to the wonderful tin ceiling? The mix of textured laces in hues of vanilla, almond and coffee (yum)? Perhaps the door adorned with a mirror left open to catch a summer breeze or the use of recycled materials? An overall cozy calm feeling is my favorite feature, what is yours?...

Ocean Side B&B

This was what I first gazed upon when entering the back yard of the ocean view Bed & Breakfast. To me the wonderful vignette of three lounge chairs lined in a row looked like a big piece of pastel ribbon candy. There by invitation only to attend a wine tasting, inn tour and the enjoy the panorama of the Atlantic Ocean, it was a splendid time. Delicious food, great wines but most enjoyable where the boats sailing to and fro in the harbor of New Bedford, Massachusetts, rich with whaling history.
Enjoy...

Settee with Style

With the feel of throne, the back like a headboard, country checks that I love and a groovy granny square seat, please take a seat and enjoy. I visited the incredible Mackenzie-Childs farmhouse, showroom and workshop in Aurora, NY where the they create their wonderful whimsical pieces. Additionally, much wine was sampled during wine tastings at the surrounding Finger Lakes Wineries! I especially love the hand painted landscape on the settee's backboard, and all the Dry Rieslings.....

The Holiday

Imagine a beautiful woman from America, frustrated from the end of a relationship, switches houses and spends two weeks in a dream like home in England. An English charmer, thoroughly British country cottage. Her other half in the switch, the lovely lady from England will reside in a gorgeous and impeccably decorated American home, they have traded homes for a 2 week escape from their lives.
Yes, I have been catching up on my movies. A designer's dream to peak into such wonderfully decorated residences. Loving the painted check floor. Don't you just adore the stone wall surround to the amazing soaking tub?

Coco would be pleased

Don't you think Coco Chanel would be please with this French inspired bedroom I designed? My wonderful clients live in a lovely old home near Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Large tapestry pillows thick with fringe play off the Claude Monet garden inspired wallpaper. To rest under the fluffy down comforter or on the chaise lounge tucked nicely in the corner, oh the choices!

Martha's Vineyard

Beachy, yet warm and inviting for all seasons! Went to Martha’s Vineyard last weekend with Kara where not only was it a great time but I stayed in her house that I was fortunate to decorate! Wonderful hospitality, as always, wish I was there right now!!.
Images: Brayton Homestead Interiors

Aqua colored walls reflect the cool ocean while wood tones warm the space. One large room satisfies dining and leisure. After a day at the beach or one of Kara’s gourmet meals the comfy sectional beckons!

"My Bedroom" (sorry Dana Evan) is yellow and peach, am I not lucky?
Kara found and purchased on island a CD of the band, Nouvell Vague, whose soothing song she heard on a blog. Unlike that song, this CD contained dramatic songs like “Bella Lugosi Died” and “The Human Fly” that sound like the names imply. Made for fun listening on the ride home. thanks~ buzz buzz buzz….

*added the "Human Fly" song to the bottom of my playlist*

Birds and Bunnies

Pink walls, green chairs and a beautiful toile tablecloth create a lovely setting for dining any time, especially for Easter. So perfect that after you have overeaten you may rest on the pink settee in the background, along with pillows for everyone, they thought of everything.
Image: Real Living

Don’t these sweet birdies circling the chandelier look like they are chirping a happy tune? Dripping with glass crystals and adorned with the most beautiful Art Deco style lamp shades this chandelier can certainly illuminate my Easter table!
Image: Real Living

All these Easter colors reminded of a photograph I had taken in Montreal. Outrageous pink birds with bright yellow head feathers certainly caught my idea in this store window. Who knew artificial birds could have such visual impact?

Neverland

Come sail away with me to Neverland, or fly. Don't you love this chandelier? What it is about the juxtaposition of an elaborate light fixture that glimmers in an otherwise understated room that works so well? Look close at those lovely metal chairs, love! All that glamour atop a simple painted floor. Oh........

Peeps and malted milk eggs

Do I love how this room feels like Easter to me, the colors of blue, yellow and pink. Makes me think of a big basket of Easter candy~ oh yum, pink peeps and malted milk eggs. Swooning over the walls, what a great way to recycle vintage wood and go green!
