PAINT YOUR OWN SKATES: easy tips to paint YOUR HOME portrait

It is very cold here in Massachusetts! Only had a sprinkling of snow last week, but enough to make me reminisce and want to grab my ice skates and go to the Somerset marsh and skate.

Here are the basic steps I use to create the skate.

These are my handpainted ice skates., painting of the Brayton Homestead, of course.  I painted them in a primitive style- aka- giant snowman the size of a house.
First I painted the skates entirely with white paint, including blades and lace openings. I sketched the house on one piece of paper, the snowman on another, cut around the edges of
each and kept moving the shapes around until I liked it. Then traced the shapes.

I made a straight line with a little curve for the snow, painted a deep blue around the house and snowman, even the lace openings, the painted in details. Remember in this naive primitive style, you are not looking for perfection! I glazed over the snow and the snowman with a thinned out gold paint and completed the skates with a gingham check fabric scrap for laces and a hand painted bells as snowmen.
Try painting your house!
You can always take a photograph and trace it-
Let me know if you have any questions.

stay dry and warm and thanks coming by the homestead.

Old mill transformation

A lovely old cider mill transformed into a glorious living space. Hand rubbed greyish pink walls are the perfect background for the large Art Deco style round mirror. A slight touch of the Christmas holiday graces the back original stone walls of the bedroom, a single strand of greenery. Minimalist at it 's finest!

blog giveway - let's dance

There once was a little girl who loved to dance. She would whirl and twirl around her canopy bed. Her Mom brought her to ballet lessons when she was 4 1/2.
Thanks Mom!
I took lessons until I graduated from high school
then danced in the state dance company.
Mom drove me to dance lessons for years and years... she watched countless dance recital rehearsals
until I am sure she knew all the dances by heart...

So here's to you Mom with all my love
and thanks to you for reading.
Enter my giveaway by following my blog and leaving a comment.
Post about it or put my button on your side post
for another entry...

Blog Giveway

How many reasons to thank Mom for all she taught me?
LET ME COUNT THE WAYS...
1.
Mom's talent and love of decorating was infectious. Her taste was classic meets artistic, a woman way ahead of her time.

Consequently, I was moving furniture around in my bedroom at an early age, painting things, covering everything in different colored and patterned paper and accessorizing to go with it; then changing it. Now I take her Classic yet Artistic style into my Interior Design business. Thanks Mom...
