Your home your castle...

They say a person's home is their castle, I can agree with that.

I try to offer items at Brayton Cottage to make your home beautiful at a good price...

William Morris' quote says it best...

If I were asked to say what is at once
the most important production of art
and the thing we most longed for,
I should answer,
A beautiful house.

Federal Style: OUR Living Room

Welcome to our library/ living room.

A relaxing weekend has prepared me for a busy work week.

Right now I am working on great interior design project.
It is a fabulous commercial space that I will be designing
for my client  in an "Industrial Chic" style.

my living room at the homestead is not Industrial style,
which I love
 more Federal meets Victorian~
on the music stand is a watercolor painting I did of a bird nest...

Krumpet loves this room too.

THE NEW FACE FOR THE COTTAGE

Have you seen the new face of Chanel?
No, I really mean, Have you seen the new face of The Brayton Cottage Shop?

The BRAYTON COTTAGE is one of my two shops on Etsy.

I thought it needed a new face to coordinate with my shop’s header design.

It all started with this wonderful old photo from 1924 that I purchased.

I do hope you can come and visit
Thank you,

English Garden Wedding

There is going to be an
ENGLISH GARDEN WEDDING
and not only am I invited
but I am so blessed
to also be the
WEDDING PLANNER!

so to look my best I have chosen this great vintage hat for myself,
at Stella Designs, you see
this is my client's daughter's wedding, and has I had the privilege
to decorate their house and the grounds...

They also asked me to plan the wedding.
In fact the color scheme is similar to their living room below that I designed...

Think 1920's Art Deco, English Garden, a touch of French, meets young Great Gatsby's soiree in Newport, Rhode Island. I just love the William Morris English wallpaper with the curvy Swedish clock and custom made furniture...

My Party dress is picked, my shoes selected. Can you picture me around my house practicing
walking in these?

I'll take plenty of pictures and post them.
Thanks...
Karen

Ahoy

The sunroom I decorated for a sailor and his crew, other wise known as the man of the house and his family. Nautical stripes, embroidered sailboat fabric, warm woods and sisal carpet on tile make this room perfect year round.
Try to get in all the boating the season allows or let me design a room for you!! Ahoy......

Newport Mansion

A drive along Bellevue Avenue will afford you two things, a vista of the Atlantic Ocean and the famous Newport Mansions that call that view their backyard. Opulent yet a family home, Chateau Sur-Mer, is a magnificent Victorian mansion on Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island that I toured over the weekend.

Built in 1852, featuring a slate mansard roof, a stone facade filled with William Morris wallpaper, silver, Chinese porcelain and paintings, I ask why have I not explored the mansions for years when they are only 40 miles away?
This picture is from a interior design company that reproduces William Morris fabrics and wallpapers, as photographs were not allowed I felt this best reflected the library, my favorite room. As Lisa commented, can you image the parties they must have hosted?

William Morris tile

Do you love this taupe wall tile and it's border complete with crackled glazing? Another design selection for my bathroom renovation. Perhaps you remember the French style sink already chosen; the old world charm of the tile repeats the Flea Market style in my adjoining bedroom. Only available to designers, it can be ordered for you too. Acanthus leaf tile border reminds me of a William Morris fabric pattern.
