Small touches to create a Fall mantle scape in my kitchen

I added a burlap wreath and decorative apples to my mantle design to create more of a Fall feel. The kitchen mantle already had my watercolors and frame .

I think the Burlap strapping draped through the mantle scape pulled the Autumn look together. Adding a few chestnuts from the homestead yard  added a bit more texture; but only gathered a few from my yard this year. The squirrels got there first!
Happy Fall!

New studio display~ recycled vintage!

Many new recycled necklaces, (well vintage and recycled parts) in my studio! Do you like my new display? It was easy to create and portable for shows! Keep a lookout for a giveaway for one of my pieces! www.braytoncottage.com

Remembering

"Remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may enjoy the freedoms we share in this great nation"; a lovely quote from Susan Freeman. The Doyle family had a lovely day and hoping you did too! #BraytonHomesteadInteriors #braytonhomestead220

Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!

Recycled an old window screen into a necklace holder for my studio. With an old house 220 years old , I pick them up whenever I find them. Too small for my windows; Recycle & Reinvent!!

A Beautiful & Exciting 2014!

WHAT A FANTASTIC YEAR!!
2014 brought great family time, national recognition of my interior design work,
my clothing in a fashion show and a class reunion

Of course I must start out with the most important things, the ones I love.
Here, my handsome and loving son Doyle with our yorkie, Krumpet.
This year also brought a significant other to my life, more love!

The recycled clothing, mostly skirts that I design , make and sell on on my online store, BRAYTON COTTAGE,  were part of a fashion show with 2 other designers. I presented the show with a revolutionary era  look inspired from my recent trips to Williamsburg; also the theme for Christmas decorating this year.
                                                               Yes, a wonderful year!
Thank you for visiting the Homestead,
                                                                          Karen

Homestead blooms

August is in full swing and I still had not shared my yard's bounty. Especially proud of the
hydrangeas and their beautiful blue tones.

This year the color is particularly nice, a bit darker than past years. Can you believe I saved this
flower that was being thrown out by a neighbor, left out for the trash pickup years ago.
Did not even think it would survive.

Clematis made a good show at the homestead too. Lots of grey washed wood here,
I think the color gives an aged appearance.

This is all in my side entrance area and the back of the ell of the house. The house section to the right is the original portion built in 1796. The left side, with the door, is the modern area, added in 1856, when kitchens became in vogue! The entire addition was just kitchen, still is.
thanks for visiting.

Reds remind me of summer...

Reds
remind me of summer time. I never really like the color but now I wear so much red and my  kitchen is saturated in it. Well, white is slowly taking over the kitchen, but a nice balance  right now.

Brayton Cottage
is featuring reds now for the season. I now adore red roses and attempting to grow them at the homestead...

Come by
if you have time and thanks.
